Hello world!

So, here I am -again- with a blog -again- writing my first entry. You get the twist. I am sure.

I have been toying with the idea for a while, but I wasn’t sure what to do specifically. I have been playing with photography for the last 30-something years, but never very intensively. Well, not until the pandemic.

Tragedy or opportunity?

No, I am not talking about the pandemic. I meant me picking up a camera, pointing it to people, and expecting others to like it. I’ll let you be the judge of that.

I am learning and I am pretty much at the beginning of this journey. Be patient with me, but also give me feedback. Tell me what you think and be part of my learning experience.

Emotion and intimacy

When I first started photography, it was pretty much about gadgets and technology.

Playing with lenses, film, exposure, and the camera itself was fun, but it didn’t produce any good results. What I had to learn (and this might not be as new to you as it was to me) was that emotion is what makes a good photo.

Whether it is the moment I press the shutter, the time I spend in post-production, or the moment I see the final result. It is all about the emotion. And that is only from my point of view behind the camera.

Intimacy comes into play when the subject of my photography is not inert, but a person. This is what I like about portrait photography: A different kind of intimacy.

The EVF (electronic viewfinder), that tiny screen through which I look at my subject, becomes a time machine that freezes an intimate moment between me and my subject.

I look forward to many such moments.
