The Magic of the Beauty Dish

I have been playing with so-called modifiers or soft boxes for a while, and now I have taken the next step and bought myself a “Beauty Dish.”

This round reflector is often used in portrait and fashion photography to project a softer, more even, diffused light onto the subject. It is meant to produce a “glowing” effect. Depending on how you set the contrast, it might even reduce wrinkles, hence “beauty dish”.

It is too early for me to judge, but I briefly played with it a few days ago and the results are promising. I plan to use it this Saturday with my victims.

The dish came with a bag, a white standard reflector, a honeycomb grid, and a silver diffuser.

I got mine from Amazon.de* for around 88€. It seems to be currently sold out, but there are plenty of comparable ones available.
